Buoys
In an atmosphere of deceleration, the gentle sounds of the buoys knocking against one another, together with the reflections on the water, create a room that invites one to linger. Moved by currents, they come together in groups that drift apart again and reunite in new constellations. Some of the buoys carry contact microphones that relay the sounds of their meeting, condensed through an effects pedal, over a PA system.
In their dynamics they develop an expression of social resonance. References to human relationships, to belonging and to mutual dependency open up in the buoys’ delicate drifting.
For the Experimance Festival 2026 the installation was presented indoors in a Pool at Sektor Heimat Saarbrücken. There they were also used in a Performance, as a duo with Phileas Fiorino. Tones from hand-formed ceramic flutes and percussive ceramic objects join the soundscape of the buoys. Through breath and through touch, the ceramic instruments become an extension of the performers’ bodies.
In 2025 the buoys were installed outdoors in a fountain at Deutsch-Französischer Garten Saarbrücken for the Project Rendez Vous DFG 2025.
