Five flutes protrude from the sculpture, whose appearance comes out of the ceramic practice of working with casts of faces. Sleeping peacefully, the faces nestle against one another, and between them the tubes of the flute bodies find their place. Inside, each flute is set sounding by a fan that can be controlled through a microcontroller. Together they play back a composition made for the room.
The installation creates a space in which a collective experience of sound becomes possible. Through the developing rhythm of the fluted tones and the visual force of the sound sculpture hovering above the listener, an atmospheric oasis arises. A place for lingering and reflecting. A room relieved of any demand to act, in which one can give oneself over to the experience of perceiving. The self and others, and one’s own relations to the surroundings, become palpable. The bodily experience of the sound and the vibration of the flute tones resonates with those who listen.
